What do you do when you enter the dojo?
Karateka bow when they enter the dojo (and when they leave for
that matter) after taking off shoes and socks.
"I think the traditional reasons for bowing are to show
respect for the Sensei and other karate ka in the class, and for
the dojo, a place of training. Personally, I think that bowing before
I enter really helps me get in the right frame of mind...it signifies
the beginning of a night of training. Even if the class doesn't
get started right away, it helps me realize what I am there for,
and what I want to get out of class that night." (a quote
from a Mac dojo karateka)
