Tell me more about katas.

Katas are a set of prearranged techniques designed to defend against multiple opponents. They are usually created or compiled by the founder of a style and passed down to his students and to his/her students' students.

Each kata is a set of self-defense techniques combined in a particular pattern. Since we may never know exactly what the creator of a kata intended, there is some subjectivity in its interpretation with the possibility of several practical applications for each technique. The meaning or interpretation behind each technique is called 'bunkai'.
